Sorry everyone for not updating for the last 5 months! We have been without a computer and I haven't had much time! I decided I better get it done though! I will be posting some more of the pictures from Mike when I figure out how to change the pics to the right kind of file!
Well I'm proud to be a brother of a future broadway star haha. Congrats to Brookie for the performance. Wish I was there to have seen it. I'm sure it was really awesome. Today I'm going to send a Christmas package, so sorry if it breaks the bank. Haha jk. I'm gonna send something small, but with love. And my shoes are almost done for. I dont know if its too late to ask for a size smaller, like an 11. If not, thats okay. Only a few things more. They're not really for me. I was wondering if you could send a bunch of CTR and HLJ rings (the cheap kid ones). The kids love those and you can't get them here in el salvador. And a couple cool temple recommend cases. Whatevers clevers. Thats about it. And for candy, maybe some more lafty taffy lol.
This week went well. We found a lot of investigators. We are teaching a guy who has a date for the·30th of this month. The best birthday present lol. He's really progressing. Before we taught him the book of mormon, he had stolen the one we gave to his sister and has been reading it everyday. He's great. Really prepared. Something I noticed, is that the lord has prepared the people, all we have to do is find them, show them the way, and baptize them. That's how all the baptisms that I've had have been. Really easy. It's amazing when all you have to do is share the message with the spirit and the person just naturally does everything right. They just just go to church. They just listen and obey. They are few, but they are there.
Love you mom. Tell the family I love them. Until next week.
Awesome! hahaha. Some funny pictures. Chase is so pretty and the Aleah is huge! I didnt get the package yet. The office elders keep calling me and telling whats in it and teasing me, I think I'll get next week. If you don't mind sending some of the little books for missionaries that I left in the house, that be great. I love to study and read now. I've run out of things to read and study, escept jesus the Christ, I have to wait till Feburary to read that. If you could find the Miracle of Forgiveness and send that, that would be cool.
Goodluck to brooklynn!! She`s going to do great. Stan sent me a pick of you guys at his farewell. Madison is getting big and Payton seemed taller, a lot taller. Thanks for the pictures. I love seeing pics of the fam. Christmas is coming up. I'm already singing christmas songs. We found a family last night and the mom we found out was a member, but she want to baptize her kids. Sang a hymn for them and they fed us after the lesson. The family really enjoys music and playing instruments so they enjoyed the little hymn.
Yeah, I've lost track of time. Walking and teaching just makes time go by fast. I'll send pics next week. Siga enviando fotos por favor. Te quiero mamà. Hasta el proximo P-Day.
Well my week went well. We found a lot of new investigators and some pretty positive ones, too. You guys had a hurricane! We just had a 7.4 earthquake tha was felt in all of central america. The epicenter was in our mission! We had just gotten home for the day and began to plan for the next day when all of sudden the table started shaking. I thought it was my companion lol. Then when the floor started rocking side to side and shaking I figured it wasn't him lol. The first thing I could think of was to pray, I told my companion to start praying. It lasted almost a minute. Later that night we got a text message about a sunami warning. I felt fine during the whole thing. Not a single worry. It wasn't because I'm a tough guy, rather that I had the feeling that all would be fine. Really helps to have the gift of the Holy Ghost. So apart from the earthquake, my companion got chiginguña or tengea. I'm a little freaked out cause He can give me the disease, and the thing is that I can't get it again or im transfered to another mission. So yeah.
Love you mom, glad hawaii was fun.
Not much happened this week. We are trying hard to help our investigator get baptized. It's really hard because she's a 13 year old girl lol.
My shoes broke this week. I'm getting old in the mission. I still feel brand spanking new. But my shoes say otherwise. Can you find out if I can get a new pair from Mission mall. They have that 2 year garantee. I'll send the pics with this email.
Love you mom. Hope you guys have a good week.
Love, Elder Kauvaka
Well, this week was a bummer. Our baptism didn`t go through. She wants to be be baptised with her niece on the 25th but the baptism of the niece fell because she ddn't show up to church yesterday. So we are little bummed out. The temple presidency came to our sacrament meeting. That was awesome. I sang in sacrament meeting lol. I sang once for the baptism of our convert a couple weeks ago and our branch pres asked if I could sing for sac meeting for the temple pres. It was "chivo" (cool/awesome).
Thanks for sending pics! O my gosh aleah is so big! And payton is on a roll! and samantha is...samantha lol. Jk She's beautiful as usual. Hope yall have fun in Hawaii. And congrats to Ikuna, best of luck to him. And thanks for counting my time here in the mission, mom lol. Love you mom and tell everyone else I love em too.
Excited to here all this awesome news. Congrats to Payton and Good luck to Brooklynn.
This week we had emergency changes. My companion opened a new area with another elder and I'm continuing where im at with my new companion, Elder Barrios. He is from Guatamala also. We actually are going to be baptising two of the girls in the picture I sent on the 25th of this month. Chalatenango has had a drought of baptisms for a while, But now its rolling again. Our branch is growing and doing awsome. The missionaries and members are working pretty well together.
Yeah this was a great general conference. I think I enjoy General Conf more in the mission lol. Me and another Elder from my district were able to watch it in english in the air conditioned bunker of the church. Couldnt get better than that. The elders name is Elder Frey, hes from provo. So yeah we had a great time. Our recent convert, hna America, is doing so well. She came to the conference and is soaking up all the good things that the church has to offer. Her testimony of the restoration is growing and she continues to come to church without having to be told. She really only needed someone to show her the right way to go. Now shes just trucking on without too much help from us. She is a very humble and timid lady. But her faith is stronger than most active members of the church.
Well, not much else to report. Just know I love you and the family.
Well this week was terrible. We didnt teach much. But we did baptize. Her name is America and she is awesome. She reads the scriptures and prays everday, and she goes to church every week. She's awesome. We will be baptising her daughter in a couple weeks. Super fun.
Well this week we are going to try our best to do more. Especially cause we we won't have much time to work with General conference coming up. I'm so escited!!!!! It's one of the things I look most forward to know lol.
Love you mom, until next week.
Yeah sorry for not writing. Now it takes us more time to write to president. It`s like an essay every week now.
Anyways, the work is going good. We have 5 baptisms lined up this change, and all of them are super positive. Last week we had changes but both me and my companion stayed and Im still senor companion even though he has over a year lol. We've been having a lot of succes with finding prepared people. This week is going to be great. We are going to the temple this thursday and this saturday we are baptising another investigator. She's a lady of about 50 years. She has got to be the most prepared person Ive ever met here. We were going to baptize her 2 weeks ago but she drank coffee. In this mission we have to wait almost 3 weeks if they drink even a sip of coffee. But she droped it for good and is all ready to go. Her name is America. And after her baptism this week, we will be baptising her family the next two weeks after general conference. This family is super poor and super humble. Which is why they were able to accept the message better. So there's that.
They have shaved ice here too, mom. lol. You know what`s funny. I never know when I have felt the spirit or never notice that it has guided me until after we have taught or contacted an investigator. It's like nephi when he went back for the plates for the third time. He walked through the city not knowing where he was going, nevertheless, he was guided by the spirit. He must have noticed it after he found Laban. It's like that with me and my companion latley. Except, instead of finding a drunk warlord on the ground, we find positive and prepared investigators. It's awesome.
Well mom, you know I love you very much. Tell the family i love them.
I had changes. I am now serving in Chalatenango! It is so much cooler here. I mean cooler as in the climate. It's more up in the mountains. There's nothing but hills here (kind of like the avenues in San Fran.) but at least its a little colder. My new companion is Elder Yaxon. He's from Guatamala! Finally a latino companion. My spanish is doing good. I've been at a functional level for a while and now its going to get better as I work with Elder Yaxon. I came in to this area and it almost feels like I'm opening a new area. I got here and we had like 1 family of investigators and 1 other guy and that was it. No references and nobody to contact. So you can imagine how slow this week started. We were contacting a lot of people. Oh yeah, I'm senior companion. Anyways, we kind of had to start slow but hopefully by the end of this change we will have had success. The members are awesome. Our elder's quorum president is like 26 and he speaks english, really choppy english, but it's pretty good. The only other people Ive met who know english are the drunks and the gangsters lol. We have a better house here, too. Running water, shower, toilet that flushes, nice living space.
So besides all that, one thing I learned this week is how important the atonement is. Here it's a little hard to find people who feel like they need the atonement. for two reason's. They either belong and are completey involved en their church and feel "saved" or they don't care and don't mind fighting and shooting people for the rest of there lifes. But there are people who really need the Atonement. Who need to know that the price was payed for them and all they have to do is live the gospel. So this week we are going to help our investigators understand more of the atonement and hopefully that will help them progress more.
Love you mom, tell everyone else I said hi. Love you all.
